EFFECT OF AS(III) OXIDE EXPOSURE ON OXIDATIVE AND ANTIOXIDANT STATUS OF ZEBRAFISH, Danio rerio

چکیده

The mechanism of arsenic toxicity on oxidative stress is currently and most widely documented (Ercal et al., 2001). Arsenic may induce oxidative stress of interacting with antioxidants and increasing inflammation, resulting in the accumulation of free radicals in cells (Halliwell and Whitemann, 2004). One of the earliest responses to arsenic toxicity is the increase in reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in blood and soft tissues (Lin et al., 2002). ROS-induced damage to important bio molecules such as lipids, proteins, and DNA has also been used as a biological indicator for arsenic induced oxidative stress (Bobrowicz et al., 2002; Noreault et al., 2005). Yamanaka et al. (1989 and 1991) are the pionear to demonstrate arsenic induced free radical formation. The major arsenic induced ROS include superoxide anion (O2), hydroxyl radical (•OH), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), singlet oxygen (O2) and peroxyl radicals.

Neuro-protective Activity of Pulicaria glutinosa in Oxidative Stress- induced Neurotoxicity in Zebrafish Embryos

Pulicaria is a genus of flowering plant in the Asteraceae family. It contains over 100 species. In this study the crude extract was prepared from the fresh leaves of P. glutinosa and further fractionated into three solvent to solvent fractions. The zebrafish (Danio rerio) embryos were treated with these extracts to explore the developmental toxicity. The crude extract did not show any significa...

Neurobehavioural Changes and Brain Oxidative Stress Induced by Acute Exposure to GSM900 Mobile Phone Radiations in Zebrafish (Danio rerio).

The impact of mobile phone (MP) radiation on the brain is of specific interest to the scientific community and warrants investigations, as MP is held close to the head. Studies on humans and rodents revealed hazards MP radiation associated such as brain tumors, impairment in cognition, hearing etc. Melatonin (MT) is an important modulator of CNS functioning and is a neural antioxidant hormone. ...

Intraperitoneal Exposure to Nano/Microparticles of Fullerene (C60) Increases Acetylcholinesterase Activity and Lipid Peroxidation in Adult Zebrafish (Danio rerio) Brain

Even though technologies involving nano/microparticles have great potential, it is crucial to determine possible toxicity of these technological products before extensive use. Fullerenes C60 are nanomaterials with unique physicochemical and biological properties that are important for the development of many technological applications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the consequences of n...

Embryo Microinjection of Selenomethionine Reduces Hatchability and Modifies Oxidant Responsive Gene Expression in Zebrafish

In previous studies we demonstrated that exposure to selenomethionine (SeMet) causes developmental toxicities in zebrafish (Danio rerio). The objectives of this study were to establish a dose-response relationship for developmental toxicities in zebrafish after embryo microinjection of Se (8, 16 or 32 μg/g dry mass of eggs) in the form of SeMet, and to investigate potential underlying mechanism...

Oxidative stress response and gene expression with acute copper exposure in zebrafish (Danio rerio).

In fish, environmental pollution is one factor that induces oxidative stress, and this can disturb the natural antioxidant defense system. Oxidative stress has been well characterized in vitro, yet the in vivo effects of metal-induced oxidative stress have not been extensively studied. In two experiments we examined the impacts of copper (Cu) on gene expression, oxidative damage, and cell oxida...
